This portrait features a young man, known to his friends as Albert VII, the former ruling Archduke of Austria in 1619. Some would say he looks very handsome, which is why we have taken the opportunity to scribble "Bona Vardering" all over the artwork. This phrase is from the old slang tongue known as Polari and it means "good looking" or "attractive".
Polari was a form of British cant slang used until the 1960's. Utilised mainly in gay sub culture, it provided a way to allow subjects and people to be discussed aloud without being understood.
This artwork is produced using a Giclée fine art printing process using high quality tight-weave 400gsm cotton canvas. This is then stretched over a wooden frame milled from European kiln dried knotless pine. Everything is assembled and finished by hand to the very highest standard.
This frame is 1.5" (38mm) thick with the orange text paint colour added and wrapped onto the sides of the piece.
